installed the latest .40 beta cause I had problems with my box. tried doing a rollback to the original firmware and tried two different usb drives but I dont get the firmware upgrade icon. even though I have done it all right, what else can I try? cause now the box aint working well at all. streaming 720p/1080p mkv from my synology 210j nas used to work fine but now it works fine for a few min then it goes all crazy and the sound stops and it lag. when is a new firmware coming out? as it looks now looking back at the old firmware it’s silly how long time between them it is being such a big company.
If all you tried was the “Original” original firmware, that won’t work.
You have to use the ROLLBACK Firmware.
You can edit the wdtvlive.ver file and edit the version number to something like “3.03.03” or anything higher than what is presently installed.
tried the .39 rollback and it didnt work.
You’re not listening to me. You need the 40 rollback, or do what I said above.
The unit will update firmware only if it believes that the version number is greater than the version already installed. Therefore to roll-back you have to fool the unit into thinking that its installing a newer firmware. As Tony says you either have to get the correct roll-back firmware or edit the ver file (using notepad) of the firmware that you want to install.
Same problem here. I already edited the file with a text editor but this does not help.
Any idea?

Do you have a WDTV Live or a Live plus.
What firmware are you running at the monent
What firmware do you want to change to,
I accidently downloaded the .40 firmware while it was available on the page for the beta version.
My hope was menus for DVD files that, however, still did not work on .40. On searching the forum I realized that I installed a firmware in error that should not have been available. Now the download page with a rollback version is gone and all trials to edit the version file did not work.
I’m stuck now, quite angry that WD publishes versions in error and then on realizing this, remove any traces of the download page (…including the rollback files…!).
This really is a bad joke, as is the fact that DVD menus do not work. I’d never had bought this device if I had realized that one of the most standard features does not exist…
You’re wrong. They didn’t “Publish it in error.” It was a limitted beta by invitation only, and people took it on themselves to install it anyway. It’s your own fault that you bought it. You shouldn’t have bought it AT ALL since NONE of the online documentation says ANYTHING about DVD support in ANY of the releases.
Now, DVD Menus have worked in EVERY beta since June, so if you weren’t able to get them to work, then you were doing something wrong.
If you have the LIVE, download the RELEASED code HERE:
http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/updates/?family=wdfwdtv_live
Now, open the WDTVLIVE.VER file in NOTEPAD and edit it so it looks like this:
VERSION=‘1.04.00_V’
LOCATION=‘wdtvlive.bin’
PKG_LOCATION=‘wdtvlive.pkg’
Save the file.
Now copy ALL THREE files (VER, BIN, FFF) to the ROOT of your USB and install it in your device.

Why go off on one when we were in the middle of helping you.
As Tony says the DVD menu’s do work in the beta’s. If you roll back they most certainly will not work. Just follow Tony’s advice and everything will be back to normal. If you do download any beta’s in future I advise you to get the rollback file at the same time.
Just edit file and change to up version if is write 1.3.38 put 1.3.40 !
Hello,
first of all thank you. It worked out well.
I’m not angry to anybody here but for WD policy which I find, well, “strange”.
I’m running a small company and if I’d treat my customers that way…I’d be bancrupt very quickly.
Anyway, I also downloaded the .38 version a while ago but never installed it.
I could not use DVD menus in .40 but if you say they work in .38 I’m tempted to give this a try.
How do you use the DVD menus?
In .40 the remote was useless and I could not mark anything in the DVD menu.
All the best and thank you again
Andreas

You are joking right. Just read the whole of this thread, there is nothing more we can do other than coming round your house to do it for you.
When you opened the WDTVLIVE.VER file in notepad, and changed it to:
VERSION=‘1.04.00_V’
LOCATION=‘wdtvlive.bin’
PKG_LOCATION=‘wdtvlive.pkg’
and went to save it, did you change the file requester in Notepad to “All files (*.*)” instead of “Text Documents (*.txt)” so that Notepad didn’t save it as “wdtvlive.ver.txt”?
