I have a 6 TB WD drive attached which I’ve used for backup of a 6TB RAID 1. Backup has been working fine until now, where the EX4 hangs with all drive LEDs blinking in sync whenever I try to run the backup set (same set I’ve been using all the time). The GUI also freezes. Reboot or shut down doesn’t work either, have to pull the plug to shut it down.
The USB drive works fine on it’s own, I can copy files from the NAS to the drive via Windows Explorer without any problems. It’s only when I try to back up using the NAS software it goes wrong.
I suspect it’s the latest firmware update 2.11.140 that has caused it, I haven’t made any other changes to the system since the last working backup.
Update:
I can see that the EX4 also hangs with the drive LEDs blinking if I just plug in the USB drive and wait a few minutes. Looks like there are others having the same problem after latest firmware update.
Have you tried performing reset using the physical button on the back of the unit? if not, please try that. This will help the unit to clear previous information about the old firmware.
Yes, I’ve tried to reset several times, doesn’t seem to help.
But I actually managed to start a backup once, after a restart. It seemed to run OK for a couple of hours, so I let it continue over the night. Next morning it was hanging again though so I had to pull the plug. Backup Status said “Completed” but the date refered to the previous backup made so I probably didn’t finish before it hang. I could see it had copied at least a few hundred GB though.
It seems to be quite random when it hangs, when the USB drive is attached:
it hangs when or shortly after the USB drive has been attached.
the USB drive attach fine, and I can browse the files etc. but as soon as I open the My Cloud GUI, EX4 hangs.
2a. it doesn’t hang when I open the GUI, but as soon as I start a backup it hangs.
2b. I can start a backup, but it hangs sometime during the backup process.
