Cannot upgrade firmware on WDBGXT0000NBK (WDTV Live Gen 3) from 1.03 to 1.06

Hi All,

I’ve tried and tried to upgrade the firmware from the default 1.03 to the latest 1.06. My device however will not locate automatic updates from the Internet (seems to be well documented) nor will it read the firmware from a USB memory stick (firmware is located in the root). I tried putting the USB stick in when the device is on, resetting the device with the USB stick in, powering off etc. I never seem to get the firmware upgrade option. The USB stick is OK as I have a few photos etc that the device is reading and displaying.

I don’t have much hair but I’m tearing out whats left.

Do you have New Firmware Notification turned off, perhaps?

I did have the notification turned off. As soon as I turned it on it worked and I have upgraded successfully.

Feel a bit stupid now.
