Can non-Smartware software be used with MyCloud?

I have a 3TB WD Mycloud and a USB tethered 2TB seagate HDD for a total of 5 TB storage that I want to use for rolling backups. I’ve been trying for over a year to get Smartware to work properly with much frustration which I won’t go into here. I finally reset MyCloud and deleted all old and partial backups, and tried starting over with same Smartware frustrations. I’m tempted to just use the 5TB as a large HDD and use Windows File Explorer to copy data files into a large (~2TB) folder and delete/replace the folder from time to time, but I’m hoping to go more hi-tech than that.

I like the idea of remote access using MyCloud, but I want to use something faster and more stable than Smartware. My main frustration with smartware is the snail pace of backups and many stalls and errors (no writeable partition) during the process.

Is there other recommended software that works faster and is more stable than Smartware? I have Acronis True Image but not sure how to integrate that with MyCloud. Maybe there is somethig else recommended?

Thanks for your help.

Yes. You can use any backup software you like. You don’t need to use any WD software for local network use of the MyCloud. Search the forums for recommendations.

I and others use FreeFileSync.

Of course you can use other backup software to backup across the local network to the My Cloud. At its core the My Cloud is a network attached storage device. Any backup software that supports NAS drives can backup locally to the My Cloud.

There are any number of free and paid programs you can use. Here are just a few free backup programs:

EaseUS Todo Backup Free: http://www.easeus.com/
Macrium Reflect Free: http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx
Paragon Backup and Recovery Free: http://www.paragon-software.com/home/br-free/download.html
Free File Sync (in Mirroring mode): http://www.freefilesync.org/
