🖐Can I connect directly to mycloud drive from my laptop?

:thinking:My upload speed is less than 10Mbps so it’s very slow. Can I connect directly to my MyCloud drive?

The computer will need an Ethernet networking port in order to directly connect the My Cloud to the computer. See the following WD Knowledge Base Article for more information.

Second option: Get laptop on a WIRED connection to network.

I have seen dramatic differences between wired and wifi speed. (The wifi is often the “weak link” in the network speed)

Most laptops today don’t have an ethernet jack. . . .but there are plenty of low cost USB based network adapters that provide this functionality.

I use a USB hub that in addition to a few USB ports, has monitor jacks and a network jack. One USB cable gives me monitors, speakers (via a USB port) wired network and a small pile of USB ports.

I have tried this but it’s not picking up the MyCloud, i upgraded the firmware to os5 and it stopped working after that. I cannot connect to it anymore.

You may be experiencing the “indexing” issue that is well complained about across several of the WD support subforums. The indexing that is done after upgrading to OS5 can render the My Cloud unusable and inaccessible for a period of time. If you can access the My Cloud Dashboard try disabling remote access, and disable Twonky media server if it is installed.
