Please forgive me, this is my first ever NAS. Need help on the my cloud app aspect>
I have the EX4100, which I managed to set up and the mobile app. (trust me it felt like an achievement )
I have question regarding the My cloud app, (not sure if thats how you refer to it )
I have a Macbook pro
I have read the easiest way to transfer my data to my brand new NAS, is to open Finder and then drag and drop my files. to “WDMycloudEX4100”
My files are mostly images, RAW files and processed Jpegs.
How can one easily manage //Arrange files in the My cloud app, both on my laptop and my phone?
I have accidentally put a folder of images in the wrong place, and duplicated it .
On my laptop I have tried the MOVE option but it doesn’t give me may options except to the default “Shared Pictures folders” I don’t want to use their file system. The same options on my iPhone.
Is there an easy way I can arrange my catalogue of RAW files, Jpegs, published images Sold images etc?
I think I read, if you delete a file on the NAS you lose it from both the NAS and your computer.? (not sure how that can be if I keep it on my computer )
If I delete the duplicated folder, will I lose both?
I can’t find any videos on using My cloud beyond the system set up of the NAS itself.
Thanks for you patience and any guidance you can give this less than tech savvy newbie.
@cat0w, from what I can see, bear with me I am new to the world of WD community, I did post in in the My cloud EX surfers sub forum, if I cam wrong can you give me a link to the appropriate Forum.?
Thank you @Bennor
when I clicked the link you advised OS5 My Cloud EX series
This is where it took me to, which is where I thought I had posted my original question.
Some people are fairly picky about where posts are located when asking questions.
Of course, there are less than 10 people (maybe less than 5) that regularly intelligently respond to questions across the entire site (Plus the Keerti Bot which will helpfully tell you to open a support case for the best troubleshooting (Nobody has ever claimed success with this approach))
Overall, the OS/5 web apps are VERY limited. Basic things like "folder copy* are not really part of the functionality. I frankly gave up on the OS/5 web apps very early . . .
For day-to-day access, I use simply windows explorer (MAC finder will work just as well) for basic file operations, and FreeFileSync for backup/syncronization activities. I have pulled my NAS units off the internet for security reasons; but before I did that - - → I would access remotely using a VPN connection (Not for the feint of heart)
THANK YOU!!! @NAS_user, so organise my files via my laptop (MacBook) as I slowly populate by drives. Sorry to bother with what might feel like silly questions, can one rename folders via computer ?
