I’ve just bought an Airport express and was wondering what the best way to set it up would be so that I can play music stored on my mybook live, controlled by my iphone / ipad. I have itunes match as well, and don’t want my phone to be streaming the music from wherever. The airport express will be wired via ethernet to the same router as the Mybbok live on which everything is stored. I don’t want the problem with network dropouts and hammering the bandwidth and battery on my iphone to deal with.
How can I set it up to be taking the music straight from the Mybbok live rather than streaming it. I’d also rather not have to turn off itunes match everytime, because it takes an age to repopulate the library when I turn it back on. Thanks, Dom
hmmm… the moment you play a file not located on your PC/Phone/Tablet, you are streaming. Now, whether it is local (LAN) or internet (WAN) streaming is a different story. Some refer to it as “local content streaming” as well.
Ok, so if I have my airport express ethernet cabled to the same router as the mybook live, if I select a song to play on my iphone will the iphone try to play it through the airport express by downloading from the cloud, or will it play directly from the Mybook live?
when I had an iphone, there were no free apps to stream from local content, not sure now. The free ones, were limited to # of files and/or format. But the big clue is to get " streaming apps".
But if you goal is itunes playlist, sorry i have no asnwer for you. Perhaps try Apple forums, or wait to see if someone else has any tips.
