Backup from MacBook Pro to My Passport 5 TB using Acronis True Image doesn't work

Hi there,

Having installed Acronis True Image, I attemted repeatedly to make a backup of the laptop’s HDD - to no avail, as the external drive (connected via USB) is not accessible: Allegedly I’m not authorised to write on the external drive. What can/must I do to solve this?
