I have an older Mac that has a My Cloud application on it that I use to access MyCloud. No issues with it at all.

Just purchased a new Mac running El Capitan.

I cannot find the app that is loaded on my old Mac to install on the new Mac. Is there no longer a desktop MyCloud to load?

Also, it appears that I cannot access my drive remotely (except through web browser). I saw this issue raised in the Community last year, but thought it was solved in version 10.11.2 of El Capitan. I am running version 10.11.4, but appear to still have same issue. Is there a solution (although first I need to find the desktop app).

I do not use any of the WD software, so here is what works for me:

  • internet browser for dashboard access (http://my-devce-ip)
  • Windows File Explorer for accessing or map the share: \\my-devce-ip\
  • OS x Finder for accessing the share: Finder > Go > Connect to Server > smb://my-device-ip

You can also try it replacing my-device-ip by the name of the device.

As the prior post indicates there is no need, while connected to the local network, to use any of the WD software or apps when it comes to basic access to the My Cloud.

Did you check the WD Support website, specificly the Softare and Firmware Download page?

From that link you can select your My Cloud model and download the various software programs and firmware for that model.

Yes, I can access everything locally using the finder window.

I am trying to access over the internet from remote locations now. As mentioned, I can do so through the web based WD login screen. The problem with this solution is that every file I would like to see has to be downloaded. Under the old application, I could view them natively before requesting a download.

I looked at the page and link you referenced. 10.11.4 (or any version of 10.11 for that matter) is not listed. Therefore not supported?

People are having various issues with El Capitan and the My Cloud. Only suggestion I have is to install the WD My Cloud Desktop for Macintosh software (http://download.wdc.com/nas/WDMyCloud_mac.dmg) on your Mac and try it out and see if it works. The software is generally supported on Mac OS X 10.6 and up.
