After upgrading from OS 3 to OS 5, Cloud Access is Disabled - trying to sign in from the NAS, stuck on "UPDATING"

I’ve seen this problem several times in the community, with no help from WD.

My internet statis is “Internet access” in the Network Profile
I can access the NAS fine from my Win 10 network
clue: Can manually update firmware 5.25.132, but the “Check for Updates” button results in “Unable to connect to the firmware update server”
Have static IPv4
Can successfully sign in to My Cloud
Been this way for almost a year… sigh
have had this NAS for 4 years, worked perfectly on OS3
Seems stuck on some kind of internet/lan access problem, but no clue…
have prt forwarded in my router and in the dasboard.
No clear help from WD or the community, i.e. steps to take that resolve or pinpoint the problem
I know networks, Linux, computers very well (my job)

If its not Ex Ultra series then you made a major mistake. That isn’t compatible with os5. Cloud access is not support and NEEDS TO BE DISABLED due to security risks that are not fixed. Its the end of line for that series. I have one still but it is completely disconnected from the cloud/ internet. Ex Ultra is working fine on OS5.

You didnt get the 200 warning emails about this limitation? LOL

I am confused.

What is the problem? Is it that you can’t get the unit to check for updates? Or do you have some other type of access issue? (i.e. can’t access using the web apps?)

Its clear to me a chip has failed in it. Same way i have sometimes found bad harddrives. Never know a drive is broken until its put to a diagnostic test and then ba da be bam. I got lucky with my ex2os3 and it ran for around 6 + years basically 24/7 The I got the ex2 Ultra and finally realized that I do not need to have it running 24/7 so utilize the power schedule feature to set when the nas is on and off. Its going to die someday. The Nas drives software that runs it is the best the world has to offer.It is from Canada with Amazon infrastructure involved. The same software is also utilized with other high end NAS companys.
