Adding files manualy to WD Smartware Backup

OK tried searched and browsed thru topic but couldn’t find answer so i`m asking. I have WD My Cloud and i get bored of doing my backup manually as i used to do. Installed WD Smart Ware and everything is pretty clear. Only fact that i already have tons of files on my Cloud that i backed up manually by copy pasting.

Is there a way to include them in newly made Smart Ware backup without copying them back to computer and backing up using Smart Ware? Good part of those files are old archives that i don’t keep on computer but i would like to access them thru Smart Ware eventually in the future. Will simple move from old folders on MyCloud to one that is created by Smart Ware work?

There’s no option like that on the software. If you move the files manually, they might not be recognize on the backup file.

Have you read all of the information provided by SmartWare, and all that is provided under the Help tab? At the bottom of the Help tab you will find a link to the Online User Manuals.

I readw all that, didnt found anything about what i wanth to do but then i
tried…

And its work, files and foldera i added are marked as deleted during
retrive and basicly thats what im trying to do, wil try to overwrite some
to see will that corrupt backup.

Have you tried drag and drop into the folders created by SmartWare? If you did read the information and Help then you should have seen where you can choose how many copies to keep and the fact that after that number of changes the oldest will be deleted. See example image below. Click on, tap or activate image to enlarge it.

Again read all the information provided.

Are you using a Windows computer, Apple, Linux etc.?

Here are a few images to show you how I move files or images. Click on, tap or activate image to enlarge it.

The below image shows the image I used in my prior post.

To place it in my backup folder created by SmartWare for my Desktop computer I simple drag and drop it on the Pictures folder.

Final image shows the picture in my SmartWare Desktop Pictures folder.

Are you a professional photographer? If so you may want to consider going back to school and taking some classes on how to use the computer and storage devices.

I have Windows 10 on my computer.

WOW. Where from this came? U may consider not to post irrelevant answers for the topic. I asked straight forward question and you answering with generic tutorial blabbering.

My academic and professional status is not topic of post and you should refrain yourself from suggestions like that, to at least stay polite.

back to topic, i did tests and Smart ware recognize files added manually to backup and marking them as deleted files/folders. Still testing does it corrupt backup in any way.

You’re the one who placed photographer under your name and if you read my post I only made a suggestion.

For 23 years I photographed for the Fire Department, photographing fire scenes and other fire department activities. We used film when I first started and later went to digital camera’s.

My response to your question was to show you how to move the files using a Windows PC. My response showed how to do this without moving them back to your computer. Pretty simple drag and drop.

Again, you’re question, Will simple move from old folders on MyCloud to one that is created by Smart Ware work?

My images for Windows 10 computer shows how I do this and yes it works. The image was moved from my Horace share into the SmartWare share (backup) under Pictures. I did not have to move it back to my computer first.

TY for educating me and rest of community what drag and drop mean and how
it work on 2016 OS.

I working in the field of news photography fo the last 25 years, more then
35 in general photography, 19 of those for leading world news picture
agency. Have master degree in political science and master degree in arts,
working on my phd thesis for last 3 years while teaching photography at
University for last 10 years, so your suggestion to get back to school for
some drag and drop classes is rather unpolite.

Anyway, since both get involved in non topic disscusion while both of us
get to emphiric result without confirmation or expert support on related
mater lets leave it here.

OK, but I have a question for you. If you already have these files on the My Cloud in a share and you have access to them why do you want to move them to the SmartWare share?

Becouse i wanth to switch from doing backups manualy to automatic schedule
backups and keep part of them on offline storage (MyCloud) not occupying
drive on my laptop. Im doing it mannualy for last 10 years and figured i
can automate process and do it more often since i can access my storage
remotly now.

I understand but you may want to read this topic.

You can find more on this topic by using the search icon at the top right. I used, smartware remote access, as the keywords for the search.

This is why I have files that I want to see remotely not only backed up in SmartWare but in my Horace share too.

Will add this too.

My cell phone My Cloud App talks about using WD Sync for remote access to SmartWare backups. I do not use WD Sync but this would place the files back on your computer.

Ty for insight, i never even used Smartware folder since its clearly stated
in manuals that it cant be accessed from remote network. Dont have any
issues with accessing my drive.
