Wondered if anyone can assist with the following issue?
I am trying to use EaseUS Todo to automatically backup some files stored on the public side of my MyCloud NAS, specifically the iPhone photo backup folder which is created on the public side by the MyCloud app. I can access/backup files from the private side with the same software no problems but when I try to access the public folder (Z) I get the following dialogue box pop up asking for credentials –
I don’t get the same message pop up when I go into the drive through file explorer. It doesn’t look like the system is happy allowing the software access to the drive.
I have tried to search through previous forums for an answer, have found similar issues raised but none that gave clear solution. Some suggested not entering anything and just clicking through, others suggest putting random value into the boxes but none of these work nor does putting in the MyCloud username/password.
You should always refer to the My Cloud Home as MCH or clearly specify the Home unit otherwise most readers will ignore your question about ‘My Cloud NAS’ in this MCH subforum.
You seemed to have your ‘Public’ and ‘Private space’ mixed up. The drive Z: you have is the ‘Private’ space and that is where the iPhone can access the shareable online private space of the My Cloud Home. The iPhone can’t access the local LAN Public space without using another iOS file managers and can’t easily access the LAN space from the internet without the use of VPN.
The virtual drive identifier you tried to cross out is just an identifier and it does not let you open the drive from anywhere, not even on the local LAN from another permissioned PC on the same network without server authentication from WD servers.
The question you should be asking is why you are asking a EaseUS question on the WD forum. There are other backup software, many of them free and some opensource, that can backup to and from the ‘Private’ space while connected to the local LAN.
Do a search of the forum and you may come up with names such as Freefilesync, dSynchronize and Toucan backup, all free and all should be able to access the MCH virtual ‘Private space’ mounted drive. Just get it from the program author or another reputable source so that you don’t pick up a virus.
Thanks for the reply NoPlex, from some of the previous forum posts I think there is a way of getting it to work but none of the solutions offered by other users have yet worked for me.
Will have a look at the programs you’d suggested to see if they can help.
I’ve tried the various credentials that I think it could be, nothing obvious in the Windows 11 Credentials Manager that look as though they could be dropped into the dialogue box.
Those answers only apply to the SMB ‘Public’ LAN share, not the KDDFS virtual file system that is probably mapped to Z: in your case. You are still confusing SMB Public with the WD virtual file system ‘Private space’.
If you really want to use EaseUS, you should just go and ask them. They don’t have a forum anymore, but they have some kind of a chat support. Ask them if the Todo backup can access a mounted virtual file system such as the WDC KDDFS (also known as Virtual Network Redirector WDFSConnect). Of two dozen backup programs for Windows I have seen, only a few support the WDFS connector.
