Accessing My Cloud via app on local network

If you want to go the VPN Server route. Check your local network router or gateway to see if it has a VPN Server option. Some consumer routers include a VPN Server option, like OpenVPN, that can be enabled to allow VPN access to the local network.

Hello Bennor, thanks for your reply for sync apps. Folder Sync is a very good app and we work now with this app.
Goodsync only works with another PC and not with smartphone only.

Kind Sir.

My my cloud is no longer supported and I can’t reach it by internet. It is connected to a route, but since the support ended on April 15th I have no access to it. Could I simply connect the my cloud directly to my laptop and transfer all the content to another external hdd/ssd? I tried to lacate my my cloud using the dashboard, but without luck.

Kind regards

Mike

Have you tried accessing the OS3 My Cloud by it’s IP address? If you don’t know the My Cloud’s IP address try accessing the router the My cloud is connected to and see if that router indicates an IP address for the My Cloud. then use that IP address to access the My Cloud Dashboard.

Yes one can connect an OS3 My Cloud directly to their computer using an Ethernet wire. That computer would need a Ethernet/RJ45 networking port however. If the computer does not have an Ethernet port one can obtain a USB to Ethernet adapter.

Hi, I’m really sorry I don’t even know how to use this forum properly, so I apologise in advance. I have been reading and reading about OS3. I know nothing about tech at all. The person who originally set the mycloud up for me has moved away. I can no longer access MyCloud because the app doesn’t work. I know I was told that would happen. There is nothing important on My Cloud, it’s only photos of nails as I’m a nail technician. Am I right now in saying that to access MyCloud I will have to get a file manager app from the App Store for iPhone, and see which works best for me?
Then if I purchase a new cloud, how do I transfer everything from my old cloud? Sorry I am totally ignorant here, I apologise again.

You will have to search the Apple iPhone app store for “file manager” apps to find one that works to access a local network My Cloud. By local network that means your computer or mobile device connects to the same local network (using wired or WiFi) that the My Cloud is connected to. I don’t use Apple iOS devices so I don’t know what specific file manager app to suggest Apple iOS users use.

You can access the OS3 My Cloud by connecting a computer to the same local network as the My Cloud, using Ethernet wire or WiFi, and then copying files/data to or from the local network My Cloud.

Access My Cloud Shares On Windows

  1. Open File Explorer .

  1. Click Network , then double click the My Cloud to access the shares.

  2. Double click on a My Cloud Share.

Note: If clicking into a private share, enter your credentials and click the OK button.

  1. Copy your files from the My Cloud Share(s) to the local computer or other external storage connected to the computer.

Access My Cloud Shares from macOS

  1. Open macOS Finder .

  2. Under Locations click Network .

  1. Click the My Cloud to access the shares.

  1. Double click on a My Cloud Share.

Note: If clicking into a private share, select Registered User , enter your credentials and click the Connect button.

  1. Copy your files from the My Cloud Share(s) to the local computer or other external storage connected to the computer.

You may also want to read the My Cloud User Manual for your device. That user manual can be download from the WD Support link at the top of the page. One generally configures their My Cloud using the My Cloud Dashboard. And if one has forgotten their My Cloud administrator password they can reset the password (to blank) by performing a 4 second reset.

Can someone help how to connect to My Cloud using ES Filer explorer?
I can see the folders in explorer but they don’t open because they are linked to a user. How do I enter my username and password for that to connect?

Thanks
Parambir

What specific file manager app are you using on Android? The original ES File Explorer from DO Global was removed by Google from their App Store a few years ago (2019) due auto clicking ads and other issues.

In the past from what I remember one has to either manually add the NAS (My Cloud for example) in ES File Explorer which included inputting a username and password (from a My Cloud Dashboard User Account which has access to Shares). Or one did a long press on the NAS entry in ES FIle explorer, elected edit and input the username/password in of a My Cloud Dashboard user who has access to Shares.

Hi all -
I did a backup on my cloud OS3 before the end of support. However, I lost part of the data and now I need to access the data again on the HD. I know people tried to explain several times here (and other places) how to access the HD on a local network, but did not work for me. I can’t see it on my laptop (as local access) - don’t know if this is a setting I should have enabled; I also cannot connect through the address I used to (based on WD support: http://wdmycloud) - it does not work.

Am I doing something wrong? Or is there any way I can plug something into my laptop and get the data out?

(will remember all these great moments when suggesting a WD device in the future)
Thank you
Paulo

The following assumes one has a single bay/single drive My Cloud and not a My Cloud Home device. The My Cloud Home is a completely different device.

Make sure the My Cloud is connected directly to the local network router/gateway. Make sure the computer is connected to that same router/gateway. The front LED on the My Cloud should be solid blue or if sleeping, slowly blinking blue. For Windows computers make sure to enable SMB1.0 and set Network Profile to Private.

If one forgot the administrator password to access the My Cloud Dashboard on can perform a 4 second reset via the reset pin/button on the back of the My Cloud unit. In certain cases one may have to do a 40 second reset which will preserve user data but reset all Dashboard settings back to default.

Thank you Bennor! I do have access to the dashboard and I did enabled the SMB 1.0. The HD is connected to the laptop through a ethernet cable. Also, I can see the HD on the Network drivers - it takes me to the dashboard, however I cannot access the files/data - not sure why. Thank you again for all the support.

Make sure the computer and My cloud in the same IP address range and have the same workgroup name. If running a software firewall or security software on the computer check it’s settings. Some programs will block access to network devices/shares.

In Windows File Explorer address bar try accessing the My Cloud by it’s IP address rather than it’s name. For example: \\192.168.2.100

Try mapping a My Cloud Share for faster/easier access.
