Hi guys,
I recently upgraded the external storage for my My_Could device.
I was previously using a 4TB which showed up fine but the 8TB isn’t showing.
I see the drive is in exFAT. Could this be the problem?
Any ideas?
Thanks
Jean

Is this a Gen1 or Gen2 MyCloud? (4.xxx firmware, or 2.xxx firmware?)
I have a Gen2 MyCloud, and a quick check of /proc/fs shows that it knows about the following fs types:
cifs (Windows file shares)
ext4 (Linux native file system version 4)
jbd2 (journaling for native linux filesystem)
nfs (unix style file shares)
ufsd (NTFS driver, closed source-- Possibly also supports HFS+ [mac] filesystem, if I am reading right?)
ufsd_jnl (Journaling for NTFS/HFS+?, closed source)
xfs (Silicon Graphics Inc’s 64bit IRIX filesystem)
It does not look like the NAS knows what FAT or exFAT are. Personally, I would format the external drive as EXT4, but formatting it as NTFS on a windows box would also appear to make it visible to a Gen2 MyCloud. That it does not seem to know about FAT is pretty strange, but I also checked the busybox applets, and it does not have fsck.vfat baked in-- indicating that indeed, it really does not know what FAT is. Further, Gen2 firmware appears unable to create new filesystems, as the mkfs applet is not baked in. (curious…)
A gen1 MyCloud has a real linux underneath, (as opposed to a minimalist busybox shell, like my gen2 uses), so you might be able to persistently get it to load a filesystem module for exFAT… but you will need to verify that with a Gen1 user.
Try formatting the device as either EXT4 under linux, or as NTFS under windows, and reconnecting it.
I know that list shows ExFat isn’t supported…BUT…both my Gen1 and Gen2 MyClouds have enclosures with EX4 formatted drives in them and they work just fine.
I have the 4.xxx firmware. Is this Gen2?
No that is a Gen1.
exFAT and ext4 are entirely different file systems…
