8TB online for 5 years and no issues… but with WD moving on from personal home cloud maybe time to move on to another brand. Wonder how much more life is left, or is WD keeping firmware up-to-date? Feedback please?
I’m still using my EX4 (4x2, R5). I’m stuck on OS3, there are no more firmware updates. Unit still runs fine, and is in use daily as my primary storage. I don’t run any additional apps beyond Twonky.
I have an even older Netgear NAS that serves only as a backup for the EX4. Coupled with a pair of USB drives and some cloud storage, I have at least 3 tiers of backups.
When one of them ultimately fries, I’ll replace it with something newer with a larger capacity. Until them, they keep serving.
No need to guess folks, WD tells you when it will be time.
