WD MyCloud EX4

To the best of my knowledge I purchased a NEW WD MyCloudEx4 in 2015. It has worked flawlessly all that time. I could create Shared and my community could access them from the WAN. However, In around 2021 Western Digital told me that shares were no longer accessable because my device needed to be updated to v7 and mine topped out at v5. The sent me an email indicating that they would provide me a substantial discount to purchase a new enclosure. They never did, even though I contacted them many times over the years. They accepted my money in good faith when I purchaed my NAS. Now it seems the only resolution is to purchace a refurbished My Cloud EX2 Ultra. It is not my fault that WD seems to drift away from creating and supporting new NAS devices. I read the reviews on the EX2 Ultra and am concerned with questions and comments regardng failures with this NAS Device. I am not interested in integrating a NAS only to worry about a soon to be failure.

Please note, there was no actual category for my WD MyCloud EX4

@Buzz Did you try this sub-forum?

If it has OS3 look at this.

WD software/firmware downloads.
Western Digital Product Software Downloads

Your EX4 runs OS3. There is no upgrade path for it.

Bear in mind all tech products reach EOL (End of Life) at some point.

My suggestion is to look at another brand (Synology, QNAP, etc.).

There are other methods to extend WAN access using VPN software. You’ll find some posts in the OS3/EX4 forum cat0w posted above.

I still use my EX4 daily. It’s my primary storage. Never needed public access so losing mycloud was not a big deal to me.

Just make sure you keep current backups of critical files.

NO I DID NOT!

I don’t want to spend all my free time navigating this forum.

I just wanted to vent my frustration so see if others have done the same.

I am appalled that Western Digital treats their customers this way.

I bought my WD MyCloud EX4 and many WD RED Disks over the years.

Sorry, I just went to that sub-forum and still did not see an class for WD MyCloud EX4

Thanks,

Buzz

Hello?

I already know what you have told me.

I wish to use Western Digital NAS and RED Disk Drives.

I used to be able to access my: Photo, Music, and Video shared on my AppleTV.

I think it is appalling how Western Digital treats its customers.

For 3 years their response was “We will get back to you.”

Two days ago, they stated that they no longer are in the business of making WAN accessible NAS Drives.

I guess Western Digital is a small company created by a few grade schoolers last week.

Mommy has not taught them how to deal with their customers.

Can you tell that I am mad? LOL.
