2TB WD Drive not powering up/mounting as well as not appearing in devices

Hi everyone, this is my first post on this forum.

I have owned my 2TB WD Drive for Mac since December 2015, and only until today around half an hour ago have I experienced an incredibly frustrating problem. For whatever reason, the Drive just simply refuses to start up.

Normally this is verified by me when I see the small light on the front turn on as well as the distinctive sound of the drive’s interior activating.

I cannot launch programs that I have on the drive that I have also attached to the Dock, they instead come up with the “?” indicating that the origin for files related to these programs is missing.

I have also checked the Finder window, and have yet to see the Drive appear on the Devices menu, normally underneath my Macintosh laptop and the Remote Disk.

The USB wire has worked fine up until this point, the charger for the laptop also works so I’m certain but also praying this is an issue related to the USB wire, as there are many photos and portfolio images on my WD Drive that I’d rather not loose permanently.

If someone can help me with some general troubleshooting and what I can do to get my Drive working again, that would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks all.

This issue has been solved. According to the local A&V shop, the plug socket charger had completely fried. Problem solved with a new socket!

I’m glad this has been resolved.

I have a similar issue. When I start up the iMac, the drive does not mount on the desktop. Then I unplug the Firewire connection, and plug it back in. The drive mounts and works just fine. This happens every time that I start up the computer. Any ideas what is going on?
