Wired network wont stream 720p

hi

ive got an xtreamer pro media played set up in my lounge with most of my media stored inside that, i have that wired into a netgear wndr3700 router and a cat 6 cable running to my bedroom where my WD live is located,

i get a network connection  on the wd and can see all the xtreamer files but whenever i go to play a 720p tv show (aprox 500mb) wd live thinks for a few minutes then comes up file not supported, its a mkv file that will play fine when played through the usb hard drive on wd live, it will however stream SD videos no worries. i have a new and fast router, cat 6 cable and patch cables, how can i not get the speed to stream videos??

Download the MediaInfo program (free) and use it on one of the 720p files that will not play. Post the text output of the MediaInfo program here in this thread. This will tell us if the file that you are trying to play is supported by WD.

I think the xtreamer has a UPNP interface. Are you using that or a remotely mounted filesystem?

I get the impression that using the UPNP interface works out better in most cases.

it uses a few different systems i believe, upnp, network shares or workgroups. im not that uo to speed on networking as u can tell haha

i have however narrowed it down to a problem with wd live and not xtreamer, i can watch the same files stored on xtreamer on my laptop no worries, both wireless and wired through the same cabeling ive tried with WDTV, and vice versa, xtream will play files stored on my laptop wirelessly and wired but WDTV wont stream the same file?

its strange, but definatly must be something with the WDTV??

But the question is, how are you accessing the files on the WDTV?

Are you using the MEDIA SERVER menu, or the NETWORK SHARE menu?

If you’re using MEDIA SERVER menu, then you are using DLNA / UPnP

If you’re using NETWORK SHARE, you’re using SAMBA, as is your laptop, most likely.

ive tred it through both menus, same problem. the files show up through both but neither will play
