Why does WD Drive Service (32 bit) take over 90% cpu on i7 4Ghz 32GB?

I have 1TB WD Blue SSD and 2 8GB easystore drives (+sandisk 1TB SSD + 3TB toshiba) on a i78700k system, 32GB ram. Why would WD Drive Service take 95% CPU? I think it is too often slowing system. What does WD Drive Service or WD Drive Manager do?

I have a different drive, similar problem. In my case, the CPU usage jumps up to near 100% at some random point in time, provided WD Discovery is running. if I quit WD Discovery, the high CPU usage stops.
