Computer paralized by WD Drive Service

since a few days WD Drive services use between 30 and 60 % of computer capaciteit. I can not run a database from a portable USB HD drive as I did the last 2 years.
I see in Task manager:
WD Drive servic (32 bits) / WD Drive Manager e,g. 37%
and
WD App manager 0.1 %
WD Device agent 0.8 %
WD Discovery monitor 0 %
WD Discovery servive 0 %
WD sync 0.1 %
WDsync inotify 0

I have no idea how to discover what’s keeping the service busy. I don’t use any kind of synchronisation, dailly backups (using SyncBack) usually take between 10 and 30 minutes, and do not prevent me from continue working.

I have a look in WD Discovery, and it shows all external storage (WD + 2 USB devives)
In the tab App I see WD Backup, WD Drive Utilities and WD Security, all never used.

To my surprise at the bottom there is a sand coloured bar, with the Msg “WD Discovery will be soon available again.”

What to make of that?
