Why Complete Drive Test gets cancelled after 10% completion

Hello, I have two identical 2TB “My Passport” drives. The newer ones (product link: 1TB Black My Passport | Western Digital)

I purchased both in June 2020 and in the past 2 years they served me well, no complaints so far (…knock on wood).

I downloaded the WD Drive Utilities and wanted to run the Complete Drive Test on them - just for fun. However, the Complete Drive Test process always reports that the test was cancelled at 10%. I have tried the test twice on both drives. Rebooted the laptop just for the heck of it (MacBook Pro). Same issue.

I have ran these tests without any application running on my laptop. I have no startup items that might run in the background other than the standard system services (macOS Monterey 12.6.1). There’s no background process that would use my drives. I am not using Time Machine or any backup software that would interfere with the process.

I mention this because I found the same question from 2011 (which is now locked) and the reply to that question was that something is using the drive that is why the scan cannot complete. Well, there is no process that is using the drive. Especially not two of them. (Thread from 2011: wdbacx0010bbk-01 does not finish complete drive test - #3 by Trainman1)

The WD Drive Utilities version is 2.1.1.127 - which is the latest. Any ideas why the Complete Test might get cancelled at 10%?

Thanks.

I would recommend downloading and using CrystalDiskInfo to see if there are any errors on the disk

eg. Uncorrectable Sector Count, Reallocated Sector Count, Reported Uncorrectable Errors are all bad … and probably why the Complete Drive Test fails.

If CrystalDiskInfo reports no errors … then, i dunno why the complete drive test is failing ?

Thanks for the reply. I am not sure if you have read my post but I believe I made a reference (twice) that I use a Mac. Not Windows.

Are there any updates for this as download suggested doesn’t support Windows 11 now and I DO have a pc not Mac. Thank you.
