I’ve gone through three WD My Passport externals in the past six months and I don’t know why they keep failing.
My most most recent one is less than two weeks old and it just failed the “Complete Drive Test” under WD Drive Utilities. (This test runs a full media scan to detect bad sectors.) I ran the test when I first purchased the drive and it passed, so something must have happened in the past two weeks.
Some background: I live in Thailand and take my external with me everywhere– I work in coffee shops and sometimes it can be humid and hot. Still, I treat my external with extreme care, never moving it while it’s running and always ejecting it properly. I even have a padded case to protect it while it’s in my backpack.
Computer: MacBook Pro
Operating system: OS X El Capitan Version 10.11.6
Again, this is my third WD My Passport to fail the “Complete Drive Test”. I’m replacing it yet again with a new one.
Last thing: I ran First Aid via Disk Utility and everything was fine. It’s only failing the Complete Drive Test on WD Drive Utilities.
Any idea what’s going on? Thank you in advance!
