Those processes are separate from the Content Scan – once the content scan is completed, it hands the scan information to those processes.
wdphotodbmerger is adding the contents to the WD Photos database (and also transcoding thumbnails)
wdmcserver is part of the MyCloud software, and handles a separate database that maintains its own thumbnails, too.
Those processes will calm down when the transcoding processes are done.

I let it run for overnight. I just rebooted and after a flurry of activity for 10 minutes it seems to have calmed down.
Tony thanks for you answer about those tasks not relating to content scan.
My Cloud is now sleeping.
