My new 8TB Mybook External drive is literally giving me bad vibes.
It doesn’t make much sound, but the sounds are very low frequency and barely audible.
Rumbles at all kinds of odd times, nothing to do with whether the HDD is being accessed or not. Even if windows explorer is all closed and no process is accessing the disk, it can suddenly start rumbling for a while before ending.
Wonder if this is normal.

Do you have any software that can access the drive running at the moment? perhaps an anti-virus or computer diagnostic software can make the drive active
