WD20EZRX seen as ATA and can't use AHCI (win 7) while my other one's do

Hello,

I have 4 HDD all WD,just bought a new WD20EZRX but no matter what i can’t make it work in AHCI and is seen as a ATA device, while the other’s are seen as SATA and working in AHCI mode.

Configuration is as follow:

Asrock 890 GX Extreme 3

AMD Phenom II 720 BE (3 core)

Windows 7 Pro

(counting only the internal one’s)

1x OCZ SSD Agility 3 60gb   (OS Disk SATA AND AHCI working as intended)

1x WD 10 EARS 00Y5B1       (1 TB)    (SATA AND AHCI working as intended)

1x WD 20 EARS 00MVWB0  (2 TB)     (SATA AND AHCI working as intended)

1x WD 20 EZRX 19D8PB0   (2 TB)  This is seen only as a ATA device and not working in ahci  ← why is not working/seen properly like the other’s ?

No Jumper set (since is on win 7 it should work like the other EARS 2tb one)

It does work …but tops at around 50mb sec on transfers while the other’s are way faster.

I have used the WinDlg_124 program to check if there was any fault but a quick test didn’t find any troubles, and S.M.A.R.T. doesn’t report any problem (and is active).

I tried to move it on one port that i know it works as ahci but still nothing changed.

What could be the reason ? Is it faulty ? (bought it one day ago at the time I’m writing this).

Shino,

This is most unusual. Have you tried changing the ATA behavior on your BIOS/UEFI in order to confirm if there is a configuration bottleneck?

Hello,

Sorry forgot to post that I solved it. The problem was that the last 2 ports are set and work as IDE no matter what if in the bios you don’t disable that function. It’s used as a some sort of protection for optical drives so they won’t work as AHCI or so I heard. So you have to do this —> Menu Advanced - Storage Configuration:

  • SATA IDE Combined Mode: Disabled  ← this make it so they all work the same way (instead of 4+2 ).

Thing is…nowhere in the bios or in the manual explains that so I was stumped as to why older one’s worked like a charm while this didn’t.

Never had to use the other ports since I only had at most 3 HDD at time,so it never occurred before.
