I KNOW that WD Sync support has gone away and that many people don’t like it, BUT it has worked for me as advertised for 3 years until I clone my old WD M.2 SSD to a new WD NVMe SSD. I synced once yesterday but hasn’t since. Status shows pending (5). I got to thinking it might be Norton Security so I turned off the Smart Firewall, but hasn’t help (yet). If I’m forced to do away with WD Sync, which software is the best. I want one that will sync my document file from my computer to my cloud. That’s all. I don’t need to worry about system backups or anything.
I also need to have remote access from my Android phone. Will WD Sync that’s installed on my phone still work?
Thanks for the help
Danny
WD Sync on your Android Phone? WD Sync was for the computer and is no longer available for download. WD now recommends using Goodsync for computer syncing. Or for local syncing one can use third party programs like Free File Sync (https://freefilesync.org/).
There is no “WD Sync” for Android. There is a WD My Cloud app for iOS and Android that will copy/backup media from one’s phone to the My Cloud. See the app store for your device to download the My Cloud mobile app.

The WD Sync software is no longer available for download, and technical support will no longer be provided effective April 30, 2020. You can continue to use your product and the application, but no software updates will be provided in the future.
WD Sync is notorious for stalling and not syncing some files from time to time. One possible workaround is to see if the WD Sync will indicate which files it’s having trouble syncing, then move those files outside of the folders/Share WD Sync is monitoring. Then see if WD Sync will clear the sync failure. If it does, try moving the files back and see if they’ll properly sync. Note that WD Sync may have issues trying to sync files that are in use. If this is the case, close the application that has opened the file and see if WD Sync will complete the syncing of the file(s).
Edit to add: Also note that OS5 firmware (v5.x) does not support WD Sync.

YES you’re right MY CLOUD for Android. I just couldn’t remember the name.
Do I ned to uninstall the WD Sync before installing Goodsync?
My Cloud firmware is 2.21.111. YES I know there is a newer update, but I haven’t had any problems before I cloned the to a bigger drive.

Not sure what WD recommends on that. But one could disable WD Sync (if it can be disabled) so it is no longer syncing and install Goodsync to test it out. If WD Sync cannot be disabled then it is probably a good idea to change the destination sync folder location on the My Cloud in Goodsync so it isn’t trying to sync to the same location as WD Sync which may cause a conflict with both programs fighting over syncing files to the same location.
WD Sync seems to think the hard drive containing the folder “Users\Danny\Documents” is missing. Check the drive to ensure it’s connected. Also could be that folder location has a Windows security setting that prevents WD Sync from accessing it. How to Resolve WD Sync Issues

WHAT IF… I’ve got the install files for WDACCESS (ver 1.5.6698…)and WDSYNC (ver 1.4.6698…) I uninstall the wdsync and reinstall?
I have full access to the cloud and can move files back and forth, just not sync the files.
Also I noted that on the cloud I have under WDSync folder .WDSync history folder .WD hidden files are 2,183 files at 235gb. Can these be deleted?
THANKS for the help.
Danny
It is your choice if you want to uninstall WD Sync if you have the installer files for it. WD removed the download link for WD Sync from their website.
The hidden WD folders on the My Cloud are older versions of files you’ve synced to the My Cloud. They are there so the user can restore an older version if needed from within the WD Sync software. It is your choice if you want to remove those folders (or empty those folders).
I do have the installations files from 2017. I tried to add the “my document” folder because it was mentioned that they thought the H/W id was not the same. After deleting WDSync and WDaccess and reinstalling, I keep getting an error about some missing line #. I gave up uninstalled and got Free File Sync. So far works great. So you were right and I appreciate your help.
THANKS again
Danny
