WD Smartware Drive Unlock not working

Hi all,

I did a search on this topic and found a few threads with the same issue but no solution.

I have a USB 3.0 My Passport Essential SE 1TB that is working just fine on my laptop. However, when I try to use it in a desktop it gives me the following message upon plugging in:


When I plug it into my laptop, the password prompt comes up just fine and I’m able to access it.

I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Smartware and the SES drivers, but still nothing.

I’d really appreciate any help I can get.


It could be a conflict with the Smartware app on that computer… 

Is Smartware installed? Try uninstalling and reinstalling

Also, make sure to get the latest firmware and software available
