WD Red 4tb formatting stuck at 90%

Hi all
I just got a diskless ex2 ultra and installed a 1 and a half year old (ish) WD red 4tb drive in to it.
When I format the drive it goes through its check and then I can proceed to the formatting. Every time it’s hanging on after a hour or so at 90%.
I’ve tried an older non WD branded (hatachi 1tb) and it works fine. So I know the ex2 unit is fine.
I’ve also tried different slots and the problem persists.

Is there a fix or settings change that can fix this?
