WD Red 3TB HDD too loud?

I went from WD Green to WD Red thinking it would be quiter but its just as loud! I get a slight whooshing noise which is often very annoying. I hear people sayng its practically ‘un-hearable’ when 1 foot away but I can really hear mine so Im thinking its something wrong with mine?

How do I cancel out all possibilities of it being my PC before I return it?

Hello,

There are many variables that could amount to a drive emitting unusual sounds when powered on. However, it does not mean that the drive is about to fail.

To test our drives health, we have our Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows (WinDLG) utility, and Mac users can of course use Disk Utility and First Aid. For information on how to use the WinDLG utility, please view the information provided by the following link.

That tool will not recognize volume sizes of 3 TB and show 74xGB instead. Will the surface test still do a FULL scan of the disk?
