WD Passport Software crashes Windows 10

I used a USB WD passport to download files from my old laptop. When I tried to restore the files to my new laptop the software won’t load. The passport is visible in File Explorer and the operating software is visible. But when I try to load the software I get a 'blue screen" saying there’s been a problem and the laptop reboots. This happens with all of the software, the drivers, the discover, etc. I tried both the online and offline methods.
I searched for this problem on the FAQ page and it recommended a Microsoft registry repair program. I ran that and it found no problems.
Any suggestions?
Thanks, Jim

Just some more details. When I try to load the software I get a VIDEO DXGKRNL FATAL ERROR. I’ve checked to be sure my drivers are up to date and they are.
