My WD passport 1TB is not showing up on my Mac, it is visible on disk utility but I can’t access it and have lots of work on there that I need to retrieve. It lights up and whirs as normal, I’ve tried a new cable to no avail. Does anyone any ideas how I can access this to get the data off?

There may be some issue with the partition due to which drive is not accessible. You should refer below KBA in this concern.
Make sure that, reformatting is a data destructive process and suggest to contact data recovery before proceeding to formatting if want to recover important data from the drive.
