WD Not Mounting on Mac

This seems to be a common problem but not yet found a way to fix it.

All of a sudden my WD won’t mount on my Mac.

Drive: WD My Book 1110 Media

Mac: iMac with 10.6.8

The WD SmartWare does appear on my desktop but the drive doesn’t.  I can access files on WD SmartWare but takes its time.

I tried to unlock the drive from WD SmartWare, said its already unlocked.

I have used Disk Utility > First Aid.

When Verfying Disk the following error message appears:

“Error: The disk needs to be repaired. Click Repair Disk.”

When clicking on Repair disk “Volume repair complete” appears quickly hangs on “Updating boot support partitions for the volume as required”.

Tried this on my other Mac, same thing.  Don’t have a windows computer to run the program WD advised on their site.

Any advice on how to fix this?  All I want at this stage is to be able to recover some files from the disk.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve

Hello,

Have you tried contacting WD Support for your case?

WD Contact info:

http://support.wdc.com/contact/contact.asp?lang=en

I have logged a ticket with support and waiting a response.

Looking forward to hearing from you and resolving my issue.

Best,

Steve

I have the same issue. WD hard drive won’t mount. Disk utility sees the hard drive but can do nothing with it. I need to get files off this hard drive so I need help now. I have a deadline to meet!

Same problem here.  What is the solution being given to get these drives mounted?

This appears to be very common unfortunately, many posts on the internet about this topic and haven’t seen a solution yet.  Hope they resolve it for all of us soon.

I am going to buy a new drive tomorrow, not WD as they seem to be going downhill right now, just in the hope that I can recover data from the faulty one so I have somewhere to put the files on.

Spent time and money trying to resolve this issue and have decided to abondon all hope.

Finally bit the bullet and decided to buy two other [non-WD] drives and ensuring my data is backed up into the cloud as well.

Although customer support did reach out with their solutions [albeit in a copy/paste manner] I just don’t think their products are as good as they were 10 years ago.

Very disappointed customer.  Good luck to the many others who are having the same issue.
