External drive stopped working on Mac OSX, but WD Smartware mounts

Hi all,

I bought my 1Tb hard drive in dec-2009 and started using without any problem on my Mac OS X. A few days ago the drive stopped respondidng and now I can not access at all.

The WD SmartWare mounts on my computer,  but the drive itself does not mount.

there is a white LED blinking.

thanks.

Try this:

Unplug the WD external drive from the computer.

Remove the power from the WD external drive.

Restart the computer.

Re-plug the power to the WD external drive.

Re-plug WD external drive to the computer.

Does that drive spin up or make any noise?

Does it ask for any password?

Does the WD external HDD mount?

Have you try it on another computer?

Have you try connect it via USB cable? I assumed you have 1394 cable.

Hi,

I was not very clear on my message yesterday… the model I have is WDBAAF0010HBK

the problem started a few days ago, and I have tried to reboot and change USB port many times.

Replying your questions:

Does that drive spin up or make any noise?

Yes, it spins up.

Does it ask for any password?
No, nothing

Does the WD external HDD mount?
Only the WD Smartware mounts, the “real” drive does not mount

Have you try it on another computer?
I tried in my WindowsXP-laptop and in a Macbook with no success.

Have you try connect it via USB cable? I assumed you have 1394 cable.
The only connection I have is USB

Occasionally I’m able to see the drive using the Disk Utility…

thanks.

Keep the drive plug in.

Run the WD Smartware,

Go to Settings

Go to Set Up Drive.

Does it grayed out? If yes,

I suggest you to contact WD tech support.
