WD My Book 1140 Issue

Hello WD users,

I’ve bought the WD My Book 1140 external hard drive and I was quite pleased with it until now. I have been having some issues with the drive and lately Windows detected that the drive must be formatted so it can be used and with a lot of dilemma I clicked “ok”, but that didn’t work.

For some reason, I cannot format the drive to a NTFS filesystem. I can format it to exfat but when I try and copy something over 500MB, the transfer speed drops at 0 Bytes and after a few seconds it says: “There was a problem transferring the file.”

Is there a way to fix this? To get the drive back in a factory condition - like I bought it?

Thanks,
Dida

Go to Wd and download Digital Life Guard and formatt the drive by writing zeroes sometimes that wil fix a bad sector.

Thank you for this suggestion! I am trying this out right now and it’s saying that I should wait 253 Hours for it to finish. I don’t think my Laptop can live that long plugged in.
