WD EX2 Ultra - Pro Hard drives

Hi all

New to NAS boxes = and have been looking at the WD ex2 Ultra.

I have come across the pro hard drives from WD. Without going to technical I have noticed the speed in read and write has increased over the STD Red hard drives. I assume as this is better then there will be better file transfer speeds over the network.

The hard drive I am looking at is the 4TB Pro WD4003FFBX however it is not on the Hard drive compatibility list on WD site? Just cause its not on the list does this mean it will not work?

Are there any advantages in putting a WD red pro drive in compared to the others?

WD only “approves” HDDs that they have tested. Most HDDs that they have not tested will work just fine. The RED Pro drives will be a little faster, noisier and hotter than the RED Plus drives (stay away from the standard SMR Red drives) and have a longer warranty. In everyday use, though, you probably won’t notice any difference between the RED Pro and the RED Plus.
