WD Elements 3.0/2.0 won't play when plugged into TV

Hello

I’ve had a very reliable WD USB 2.0 for a few years that plays when plugged to my TV. I’ve added quite a few movies to it and now it is starting to slow down and when new movies I have added play on the TV, they jump/freeze then keep playing.

I don’t want that HD to die on me, so I now have a new WD Elements SS USB 3.0 and 2.0. When I read the specs on this device, it said it would be compatible with 2.0, so I assumed it would work in my TV, but I can’t even get into the files when plugged in.

Does it need to be formatted? I did see some instruction about going into the disc management and partitioning the storage, but I really didn’t understand what I was doing, so stopped.

Has anyone else had this problem and could please help me, or the HD is useless to me really.

Thanks!

To answer that question, you need to determine what formats the TV accepts. I used to have an older device (not a TV but the same concept) that would only see drives that were formatted in FAT32 for example.
