WD Discovery Installation Failed - Windows 10

No longer able to install the latest or previous versions of WD Discovery.

I’ve tried on three different PCs using Windows 10 1909, 20H2, and Server 2016. My installation was working just fine on Server 2016 until I uninstalled and tried to re-install. I even deployed a fresh Windows 10 1903 as a Hyper-V virtual machine and WD Discovery fails on it too. No other software installed, firewall disabled, Windows Defender disabled. Still nogo.

I also tried installing from a separate network(T-Mobile hotspot) other than my own local LAN. No matter which version of WD Discovery I try to install, the installation end up with the error “INSTALLATION FAILED” We are experiencing issues. Please try again later.

I chatted with WD Tech Support, Reference #:201130-000770, and followed the suggestion of trying different computers and different network (my idea). Support currently has no answer. Windows Application event log shows nothing related to the installation failing. (see screenshot)

So all this time I’ve been selecting “Do not share” my info/analytics with WD during the installation. This time I decided to go ahead and click “Share Info”. Now the POS WD Discovery software installs. So I uninstalled the software immediately after and tried again selecting Do Not Share and the error re-appears. Started over again and selected Share Info and installed. This is BS !!!

After the product installs, click the Gear Icon and deselect “Product Improvement Program”

On my side, even selecting “share info”, I cannot install. No turnaround found till now. Can someone help !!!

Did you figure out how to get the install to complete? My install is doing the same thing now…
