WD Daily Backups

I use WD Backup to do daily incremental backups to an external 2TB WD drive. How can I tell what files are being backed up each day? I would like to identify them to see if they really need to be backed up every day.

Thanks,
Dave

Hi Dave,

Your current files will be checked against the previous backup. If there is a change then the latest on the PC will replace the backup drive in Volume and the changes noted in History. If there is no change then nothing happens. You can Restore for any previous backup and it will revert to the original version. I will have to guess, but I doubt if there are multiple copies of your files.

Cliff

Thank you for your reply Cliff. How do I view the history to see the changes for each day?

Dave

Hi Dave,

The simplest way, and safest, is to use the Restore option. See the Help on each page of the WD Backup App. Select Restore and then Select files to Restore. Be patient.

The History folder is too complex. I have never tried to follow the details. The Volume folder will show you each file that is presently backed up, To get there:

  1. Open the backup drive in explorer. Caution: it would be best if WD Backup is not doing backups at the time. Check the Backup App. It will tell you if it is doing a Backup.
  2. Open WD Backup.swstor,
3, Follow a few blank folders until you find one with History and Volumexxxxx folders.
  3. Open the Volumexxxxx folder and you should fined all of the current backups and they should match whatever files you have selected on your PC or laptop.
