My EX2 came with 1.05.23 firmware installed. I had auto-update enabled. The check for updates button indicated that I was on the latest version. Checking the support website, I found that 2.11.142 was the latest. I was able to manually update to 2.11.142 (which changed the admin console from black background to white background). So, does the firmware auto-update not work? Even if it didn’t I’d expect the check-for-updates to detect a major version update.
That was a major firmware revision, so it’s possible for the unit to require a manual update. I’d recommend keeping an eye for the next firmware release. If this happens again now that you are using the current firmware base then I’d recommend contacting WD Support about it.
Thanks - that would explain it. I’m curious if that’s just a bit of tribal knowledge, or did I just miss that tidbit in the user manual?
Yeup. Same experience. My firmware has never auto updated, so I keep checking. This most recent update, my EX2 told me I had the latest. If not for the forums here, I would have known another update is out. Will have to update tonight. My biggest issue is losing connectivity to the unit. Initially, I found emptying the cash solved that, but now a days, when I empty the cache and I go to reconnect; device not connected. I have wait to get home, be in the same room with the EX2 for me to reconnect. This is NOT a great thing when your on a holiday.
