WD Black 6TB HDD noise

Hello, I just added a WD Black 6TB HDD (WDC6004FZBX) to my MSI MAG INFINITE S3 14NUC7 1436 EU. The new HDD is very loud when accessing/saving multiple data. Is this normal ?

I’m sharing an audio file via the link, which I recorded while accessing and saving multiple pieces of data.

WD Black Noise

That WD Black is a 7200 RPM performance drive, so it will be louder during heavy read and write activity. One thing not mentioned is case vibration. In a compact system like the MSI MAG Infinite S3, the drive cage can amplify normal seek noise. Make sure the drive is firmly mounted with all screws tight and no cables touching it. If the sound only happens during active file transfers and not random clicking at idle, that is usually normal for this model.

Thank you for your reply. The mechanical hard drive sits securely in its bay with no wobbling issues. However, the clicking noises I hear when reading or writing data were not present with previous hard drives. Because this seemed strange to me, I wondered if there was a problem.

If it’s only clicking during active reads and writes and not at idle, that’s usually normal for the WD Black since it has more aggressive head movement than many older drives. What I’d check is the SMART health using CrystalDiskInfo or WD Dashboard just to rule out early defects. If health shows good and there are no slowdowns or errors, you’re likely just hearing normal seek noise for this model.
