I have a WD My Passport 1TB Hard Drive and it works on my Sony Bluray player with no problems.
I just bought a new 2TB the same but the player says it is unrecognizable and won’t work.
Any hints?

Yeah, check the manual of your Bluray player to see if that size and format are supported. Chances are, it’s a GPT-formatted disk whereas your 1TB is MBR, and very few Set-top-boxes support GPT.
