[Volume Status] Volume 'DataVolume' is in degraded mode

Hi,

I’ve just got the following message [Volume Status] Volume ‘DataVolume’ is in degraded mode on my Sharespace. There is nothing in the logs and Disk management it shows disk 1 as not installed and the other three as good, however the 4 lights on the front of the Sharespace are solid green.

Logs below show that there were no alerts between the disk being found successfully in August and failing yesterday. Do I simply need to replace disk 1. The unit is only three months old and came with 4 pre installed 1TB disks. Are the Disks covered under warranty?

Thanks in advance

Take disk one out, and run a test with WD’s DLG. If it passes then write zeros to it and put it back in, if it doesn’t pass then replace it.

I took disc one out and connected via usb, neither my work laptop (Dell Latitude) or my home laptop (Sony Vaio)  even picked up that there was a device attached to the usb port, the disk didn’t spin eventhough the power light on the sata port was lit.

So I believe the disc is completely gone, either that or the sata port adapter I have is. I don’t want to mess about with any of the other working disks  in the NAS just to test the adapter.

Dude, has to be INTERNALLY inside your computer, and even like that Windows won’t recognize the EXT3 file system of the SS. Just connect the drive and run DLG, it will pick the drive at a low-level for testing and erasing.

Get a desktop computer.

Thanks for the reply but the disk should at least have started spinning as it’s powered. The fact that it didn’t is the reason I came to the conclusion that the disk was gone rather than the fact I couldn’t read it on the windows.

Got a new drive and put it in, the NAS has now resync’d after 16hrs.

I still have the original drive, should I now claim this under warranty now that it’s clear that it was the drive and not the NAS?
