Some where your instruction for the mac OS it recommends ejecting the HD and then unplugging the USB cable. Since no mention is made of unplugging the power cable, or switching it off, does this mean it is then okay to leave the power to the HD on?
When you do a safe eject “unmount” The drive with power supply should spin down. You can leave the power attach or leave power on to the device.
Is the HD safe from the internet with the power connected and the USB disconnected? Only asking because I read to turn HD off, not in use, for security reasons. Don’t know if that is true.

Once they got in to your computer system, there is no stopping them. It is up to you to disconnect the power or unplug the USB cable. You can also power off your computer if not in use. It save power and energy.
