Connecting and disconnecting the external drives

Hello

Should I shut off the pc when connecting and disconnecting the external drives or can thet be done on the fly with the pc on?

I do know to do a safety disconnect but was unsure if iIcould just plug the drives in to the ac and pc or should the ac and pc be off?

PS I forgot to ask, I only do an occasional image so is it better to leave the WD external drives off or on?

Hi, if you safely eject the external drive, its ok to disconnect the USB or power cable from it. If you leave it connected all the time it will just go into sleep mode and stop the internal hard drive from spinning.
