USB-C Drive Connected to Thunderbolt 3 Port

I Have a Thunderbolt 3 G-Tech drive and would like to attach a USB-C drive to my configuration. What is the difference between attaching to the back port on my G-Tech drive vs attaching directly to my iMac?
