Upgrading storage

If I want to upgrade my storage from 2x2TB to 2x4TB (more family members want access) how would I do that?

Hello whsbuss,

Yes you can certainly do that. You can follow the page 103-105 in the user manual below to know how can you replace the drives:

Thank you, but how would I rebuild in RAID 1 if one drive (the mirrored one) is one size and the new drive being a different size? For example, having 2x2TB drive already in RAID 1 configuration how would I rebuild the data to 2x4TB drives?

Enterprise-grade Raid allows you to expand a container if the system detects the additional space. However, more complex systems do this and it requires a dedicated hardware (Raid controller) and battery backed cache. I highly suspect that WD’s implementation of it does not allow this. Even if it did, the CPU would be seriously underpowered to do the job and will take days.

I would simply pick up an external USB3 drive, copy the data off and rebuild. I doubt there is a faster route IMHO.
