Twonky verdwenen na firmware-update op WD My Cloud Mirror Gen 2 (FW 5.31.108)

Hi everyone,

I have a WD My Cloud Mirror Gen 2 running firmware version 5.31.108.

This device originally came with Twonky media server preinstalled, but after a firmware update, Twonky is no longer available and cannot be accessed through the web interface.

I contacted Twonky Support (Lynx Technology), and they informed me that the license is tied to the original firmware and hardware. They advised me to reach out to WD to see if a compatible Twonky installation package or the original firmware can be provided.

Has anyone managed to restore Twonky on this model?

  • Is there a way to reinstall Twonky on firmware 5.31.108?

  • Or can WD provide the original firmware that included Twonky?

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Guy

Twonky was originally included on the WD My Cloud Mirror Gen 2, but WD removed it in later firmware updates. After moving to version 5.31.108, it’s no longer available in the interface and there’s no official installer provided.

Some users have brought Twonky back by installing it manually through SSH, but that requires the right old package and can run into license issues, since Twonky was tied to WD’s earlier firmware.

Downgrading the NAS just to restore Twonky isn’t a great idea due to security and stability risks.

Realistically, the only options now are to ask WD if they can provide the original package that included Twonky, or run a media server externally (for example Plex or Twonky on a small PC or Raspberry Pi) and point it to the NAS shares.
