Trying to connect to My Cloud server as registered user on a Mac

I know I’ve done it before but now when I am in Mac Finder and try to connect to My Cloud as the Registered User under the Network section of Finder it does not recognize my credentials. The Name is coming in prefilled as my name and I’ve also tried changing it to my email. What credentials is this box looking for? I sign into My Cloud Home in the browser with no problem and see the files on my device but this logon does not work for the network. I assume the same credentials should get me into the network as the registered user??

The reason I’m trying to connect to the server is because I’m trying to follow this:
Answer ID 34991: How to Enable Local Network Access to Data on My Cloud Home Using the Dashboard with Cloud Services. When I try the step to go to Manage Device in my Settings I get a popup box stating that I need to connect to the local network and that is when I try to get in via Finder.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Have you already tried the name and password for your local (Home) network?

If you have done it before, you may need to reset the system setting on the My Cloud Home (MCH). The way Apple samba accesses any NAS can lead to permission errors on the NAS, not just MCH but many others. Sometimes NAS designers will have to compensate the errors created or more simply, just reset all the file permission on the NAS itself, this can take some time for the files to show up again on the webapp (browser) after reset but there should be no data loss.

There are other purported ‘fixes’ by home users on the macOS community forum to disable macOS file sharing, reboot macOS then turn back on file sharing, but the results are usually unreliable because the permission errors will reappear.

How to Clear Device Settings on My Cloud Home and ibi

The Clear Device Settings allows for device owners to reset system settings if experiencing issues with enabling local access or accessing content through the web, mobile or desktop. The Clear Device Settings is available within the My Cloud Home, ibi dashboard.

IMPORTANT:

Clear Device Settings will reset:

  • Local Access toggle switch (Default = Off)
  • Local network User Name(s) (Default = not configured)
  • Local network Password(s) (Default = not configured)
  • Database values (Default = new)
Indexing may take from a few hours up to a few days or more to complete.
