The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -50)

So far so good with this product, does what I wanted which is a central place for movies, videos, pictures, and TimeMachine backup.

The only issue so far is I need to delete a file on there. Its a simple JPG. Its called Dads TV.jpg (so a space in the middle.

Via Finder on Mac Lion I get this error:

“The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -50).”

via Termnial, with the command rm Dads\ TV.jpg or rm “Dads TV.jpg” I get:

rm: Dads TV.jpg: Invalid argument

I can change file permissions to 777 via terminal, but still get the issue.

The file is owned by my user and in group “staff”, which I think is normal for files I create.

So does anyone know how to solve this issue? I have quite a few files I need to change.

Thanks

Seems to be an apple related error…

Check the apple forums for a work around

I’ve found this

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2222132?start=15&tstart=0

Thanks. I followed their advice and turned streams off with:

touch “/Volumes/Public/.com.apple.smb.streams.off”

then ejected the drive and reconnected.

but I stell get the issue. In this case it says contact the vendor.

I had to ssh into the box as root, then run rm -f Dads\ TV.jpg

this now worked. but of course, iyts a bot of hassle so doing it in Finder would be preferable.
