Everytime I try to save a file to My passport, I am getting the following error…‘The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -50).’
This problem only started today.
I’m using MacBook Pro with Retina Display OS X version 10.9.2
Does this mean I should reformat the drive??
Do you have the same issue with all the files or only certain folders?
Check if you can create a folder on the drive.
Try testing the drive on Disk Utility.

With the research I did looks like this issue is related to the files sometimes.

Thanks, I got the problem solved by running Disk Utility.
I have this problem too and can copy files but not folders - which is a real pain as i have loads of folders with files in.
I cannot use Disk Utility as the disk does not show in the list to be able to Verify it or Repair Permissions.
The disk is formatted as it arrived so I guess it must something to do with disk formatting.
howver its worked fine for the past two years??
